COVID-19 is a new infection that can be more serious for some older people. The Commission has developed a range of resources to help consumers understand their options on staying safe, keeping in touch with loved ones and keeping fit and active.

There are also resources that help explain what to expect in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in an aged care setting.

Hard copies of the A3 Poster and A4 guides can be ordered via the online Order Form.

States and Territories have established directions giving effect to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee’s recommendation that visitors and staff (including visiting workers) should not be permitted to enter a residential aged care facility, if they have not been vaccinated against influenza (after 1st May 2020).

Residential aged care facilities may wish to display the attached poster at entrances, to alert anyone entering the facility of these flu vaccination requirements.

These posters have been developed to supplement the CDNA National Guidelines for the Prevention, Control and Public Health Management of COVID-19 Outbreaks in Residential Care Facilities in Australia.

The CDNA guidelines include a flow chart for managing COVID-19 in residential facilities. The posters take this flow chart and present it in a way that may be easier for facilities to see what they need to do for their particular circumstances.

Open disclosure is the open discussion that an aged care provider has with people receiving aged care services when something goes wrong that has harmed or had the potential to cause harm to a person receiving aged care service. With more than 1.3 million people receiving care in Australia, this is a crucial activity for providers to support continuous improvement within their service.
