The Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) is launching on 1 April 2021. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is helping the aged care sector to prepare for the introduction of the scheme with information and resources and is hosting a series of webinars about the scheme. This first webinar provides an introduction to SIRS and the importance of incident management systems.

The Older Persons Advocacy Network has produced a video - Medication: It’s your choice, to give consumers an overview of the potential side effects of some medications and their right to make informed decisions about what medications they take.

The Commission has produced a video - How to stay safe from COVID-19 - and it is now available in 15 different languages. The video aims to help consumers understand the steps they can take to keep themselves safe during the current pandemic.

On Thursday 6 August, the Commission held a webinar for NSW/QLD-based providers of residential aged care services to share insights from the Commission’s work in monitoring and supporting services to prepare for and respond to an outbreak.

This includes consideration of leadership, organisational culture, consumer engagement, organisation wide governance, risk management and clinical governance.

A new educational video for service providers has been produced providing information about open disclosure for aged care providers. The resource is a collaboration between the Commission and online training services provider, Altura Learning.

A short video for aged care consumers, their families and representatives, explaining what the Aged Care Quality Standards mean in practice.

The video has been translated in 25 languages including Arabic, Armenian, Cantonese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Latvian, Macedonian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.
