Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Thank you for your patience.

Have your say – consultation on the strengthened Quality Standards guidance material

We are consulting on our draft guidance resources to help providers, aged care workers and other stakeholders to understand the new strengthened Quality Standards and their roles and responsibilities in meeting them. Further draft resources will be available shortly that are specifically for older people receiving care and their representatives.

The strengthened Quality Standards are expected to be introduced with the commencement of the new Aged Care Act.

We welcome responses from providers, aged care workers, older people and their representatives, and other stakeholders. Your responses will help us to produce resources that are fit-for-purpose, easy-to-understand and support the delivery of quality, person-centred aged care.

This is an opportunity to share your knowledge and ideas and help improve aged care.

The resources aim to help providers, aged care workers and other stakeholders understand and implement the strengthened Quality Standards.

Consultation documents include:

  • guidance documents for each strengthened Quality Standard
  • the draft audit methodology
  • an evidence framework
  • guidance for workers
  • a pre-audit preparation tool
  • a request for information template
  • a glossary.

The consultation closes 19 May 2024.
