We have created a suite of guidance and resources for providers and workers on the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards (strengthened Quality Standards).
Resources for providers and workers
Strengthened Quality Standards guidance
The Strengthened Quality Standards guidance helps providers, workers and governing body members understand and conform with (meet) the strengthened Quality Standards.
This online tool helps you find information tailored to your circumstances. Choose your registration category and role to see the strengthened Quality Standards that apply to you and find detailed information to help you conform with each outcome.
You can view the guidance online or print a copy.
Quality Standards Resource Centre
Access hundreds of resources on providing quality aged care through the Quality Standards Resource Centre.
This online collection brings together resources from across the sector onto one platform. It includes resources from our website and external organisations. All resources are linked to the strengthened Quality Standards, helping you improve your understanding of key concepts.
The resources give detail and support for providers, governing body members and workers to provide safe, quality care.
Other resources
These resources can help you understand what we expect of you under the strengthened Quality Standards and how to show you conform.
- Strengthened Quality Standards fact sheets – for providers
- Strengthened Quality Standards quick reference guide
- Strengthened Quality Standards – introductory videos
- Strengthened Quality Standards poster – for older people
- Strengthened Quality Standards poster – for workers
We have also collated useful resources and suggested activities into a handy checklist that helps providers and workers understand their obligations under the standards.
Training resources
You can use these resources to help you train your workers. You can change the content to suit your service category and focus on the areas that are most relevant to your workers.
You can also download conversation cards which will help you share key concepts in each standard with your workers. Workers can use the questions on each card as prompts explaining how they apply the standards in practice.
Online learning modules and live learning
We have interactive courses and live learning for providers and workers on the Aged Care Learning Information Solution (Alis), our online learning platform.
- The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards: This series of introductory learning modules helps aged care workers understand what we expect of them under the strengthened Quality Standards. The 8 interactive modules give workers a foundational understanding of the standards, supporting them to provide rights-based, person-centred care in line with the new Aged Care Act.
- Case study series: These courses use case studies to help providers and workers understand how to put the strengthened Quality Standards into practice. Using a scenario, learners explore the actions they can take to provide care that meets the strengthened Quality Standards. There are modules for residential and home care services.
Live learning
- The strengthened Quality Standards: preparing for the changes – This live learning session uses case studies to explore how you can apply the strengthened Quality Standards in your workplace.
- The strengthened Quality Standards in practice – Watch a recording of this session to get a summary of the structure and requirements of the strengthened Quality Standards.

Audits
We have created a suite of audit resources to help you understand what to expect from us when we conduct audits to assess how you perform against the strengthened Quality Standards. These include guides, a checklist, evidence collection tools and meeting agendas. Visit our audit pages to access these resources, or to find out more about the audit process.
We do an audit against the strengthened Quality Standards when:
- an organisation or person is applying to be a registered provider in categories 4, 5 or 6 for the first time (registration audit)
- a registered provider is applying to renew their registration in categories 4, 5 or 6 (renewal of registration audit)
- a registered provider is applying to vary their registration to add categories 4, 5 or 6 to their registration (variation of registration audit).
Audits help us understand if the provider or applicant can conform with (meet) the standards that apply to them.
