Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Thank you for your patience.

Supervision Model

Publication date

The Supervision Model is a Commission-wide approach where all our regulatory functions work together to detect, assess, and respond to provider risk to protect older people receiving aged care.

We continuously monitor if aged care providers are doing the right thing and act if we identify risks or failures to provide safe, quality care.

Our Supervision Model guides how we:

  • use data and regulatory intelligence to inform our level our supervision
  • respond to provider risks in proportion to the level of that risk
  • focus on outcomes that improve the quality of care and protect the wellbeing of older people
  • utilise all areas of the Commission collaboratively to respond to risks.
