Standard 1: The individual explains how we expect you and your workers to treat older people.
Under this standard, you must:
- provide person-centred care that puts the safety, health, wellbeing and quality of life of older people first
- treat older people with dignity and respect, and respect their privacy
- support older people to make choices and maintain their independence and quality of life
- support older people to make informed decisions about care agreements.

Who Standard 1 applies to
Standard 1 applies to Australian Government-funded aged care providers registered in:
- Category 4 – personal care and care support in the home or community (including respite)
- Category 5 – nursing and transition care
- Category 6 – residential care (including respite).
