Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Public Interest Disclosure

The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act) serves to facilitate the disclosure and investigation of wrongdoing and maladministration in the Commonwealth public sector, and promote the integrity and accountability of agencies and public officials. The PID Act provides protections for disclosers and reporting obligations for the Commission.

A disclosure must be made to an appropriate person in order to gain the protections available under the PID Act. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has appointed all Executive Director level officers as authorised officers in relation to public interest disclosures.
