Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Serious risk decision

Following a site audit conducted on 14 January 2019 to 16 January 2019 a delegate of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner made a decision that Bupa Aged Care Australia Pty Ltd failed to meet nine expected outcomes in the Accreditation Standards in relation to Bupa Bankstown.

On 5 February 2019 a decision was made that the failure to meet two of these expected outcomes has placed the safety, health or wellbeing of a care recipient of the service at serious risk. The Department of Health has been notified of the risk.

Serious risk is not an ongoing state; it is a statutory decision based on evidence at a point in time.

The Commission will continue to monitor the performance of the service including through unannounced visits.
