Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Thank you for your patience.

Code of Conduct for Aged Care

There are no changes to the Code of Conduct for Aged Care (the Code) under the new Aged Care Act. Only the language has been updated about who the Code applies to.

The Code describes how aged care providers, responsible persons and workers (including volunteers) must behave and treat people receiving aged care.

It is designed to build trust and confidence and trust in the safety and quality of aged care services.

The Code helps ensure that:

  • a person's right to personal choice, dignity and respect are upheld
  • workers behave with kindness, honesty and respect
  • people receiving aged care are safe from harm.
