Aged care laws in Australia have now changed. The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025 now apply. While we complete updating of our website, including draft guidance and other materials, to align with the new laws, providers are advised to refer to the new Act and Rules for any required clarification of their obligations and legal responsibilities. Commissioner's letter to approved providers – Visitor access in a COVID-normal world

On Monday 7 December 2020, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Ms Janet Anderson, PSM, sent a letter to all approved providers outlining:

  • what a COVID-normal world looks like and how it will operate
  • the importance of visitors to the health and well-being of aged care residents
  • the Commission’s expectations that all approved providers will safely manage visitors at residential aged care facilities.
